Foreign policy plays a significant role in determining the international economic opportunities and financial constraints faced by developing countries. In Pakistan, diplomatic relations, strategic partnerships, geopolitical tensions, international sanctions, and engagement with multilateral financial institutions influence trade flows, foreign direct investment, external borrowing, exchange-rate stability, and balance-of-payments management. This study examines the role of foreign policy in shaping Pakistan’s international trade and financial management, emphasizing the relationship between diplomatic engagement and economic performance. It explores Pakistan’s relations with China, the United States, Gulf countries, and international financial institutions, alongside the implications of regional security dynamics and global economic realignments. The study adopts a qualitative-dominant mixed-methods approach based on secondary data from the State Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and relevant academic literature. Descriptive statistical analysis, trend analysis, comparative assessment, and thematic analysis are proposed to evaluate the relationship between foreign policy developments and economic outcomes. The analytical framework considers exports, imports, foreign direct investment, external debt, remittances, exchange-rate movements, and foreign-exchange reserves as principal indicators. It further emphasizes that diplomatic initiatives alone cannot guarantee economic gains without domestic reforms in taxation, productivity, governance, trade facilitation, and financial regulation. The article concludes that Pakistan requires an economically oriented, predictable, and diversified foreign policy supported by prudent financial management and export-led structural transformation to strengthen external-sector resilience and sustainable economic growth.
